Inclusive Governance Pledge

The Inclusive Governance Pledge represents a commitment to fostering equity, participation, and representation in the charity sector. It emphasises the importance of ensuring that meaningful progress is made, through the integration of EDI objectives into the core strategy of each charity and the regular review of published targets.

Why is becoming a signatory important?

Boards have the opportunity and responsibility to play a significant role in accelerating progress on diversity and inclusivity in the charity sector.

The Inclusive Governance Pledge is a simple and practical call to action, for boards to commit to making Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) a strategic priority that forms part of the organisational strategy, with performance being evaluated against set objectives by the board. Performance should be published and shared widely. And policies against discrimination and harassment should be enforced.

The Inclusive Governance Pledge urges charities to ensure that good governance is practiced, which will help to promote culture change in the sector and keep EDI on the governance agenda.

Making your commitment

The Chair, on behalf of the board, is to:

1. Commit to making Equity, Diversity and Inclusion a strategic priority, supported by appropriate plans, policies, milestones, targets and timelines.

2. Publish EDI strategic objectives, and performance against objectives.

3.Enforce policies against discrimination and harassment.

Make your pledge

To sign up to the Inclusive Governance Pledge and contribute towards driving change in the charity sector, we are asking the Chair of the board to make a pledge via the pledge form.

We know that charities will be in different places on their equity, diversity and inclusion journey. As such, we encourage you to be bold and aspirational in setting your objectives and targets. We also hold the view that good, effective EDI work is coupled with anti-racism and anti-oppression practices.

Thank you for signing up to the Inclusive Governance Pledge.
